Run/Walk for Women and Children in Need!
For 25 years, KAN-WIN has been committed to improving the lives of women and children survivors of domestic violence in the Asian and immigrant communities. According to the City of Chicago’s Domestic Violence Helpline, shelter and housing was the greatest service need of its callers. For the immigrant community that KAN-WIN serves, the need for safe shelter and housing is an even more pressing concern. In light of this urgent issue, KAN-WIN has decided this year to devote its 5K funds to services and programs that will bring women and children survivors of domestic violence into safe homes. We hope you join us in September!
Why the Bok-Jumuhni?
The bok-jumuhni -- a small, drawstring pouch used to carry personal belongings -- is believed to bring luck and good fortune in Korean culture. The bok-jumuhni is also a symbol of generosity. In the Korean New Year, money is handed out to fill these pouches with tokens of good will and best wishes. In this spirit, we encourage runners to wish our survivors luck and fortune by filling their bok-jumuhnis with your support, compassion, and solidarity.
